With nary a muscle, no synapse, no will
to speak of, the tree has no trade but to let
all manner of bug and beast mow around on it,

bow its palms against faint passing light,
grow green and blossom, forfeit its fruit
showing no sign of struggle, allow
its ends to blow in the breeze.
