Of Bones and Vains

The surgeon says he
can reroute the veins around
your heart so your hands

no longer feel cold
so your feet no longer swell.
And you think “Well, fine

as that may be, this
coldness defines me. My God
designed me as this.”

So you stay. No point
good enough to argue, no
self worthy of change.
