February 6

What’s left after the rain but these roads and ruts
this sense of softness as the puddles drains, this
mud drying. When the clouds break again and the flood

is lifted up, there’s no shame in his
running barefoot and plain. We should sing
that refrain, that old song which begat
what made the sane mystic nuts.
