May 1

Some say the road to peace is marked with signs of surrender
triangle crossings of false hope combined with naivete

Meet me in the town square, at the etchings of our heroes
marble to martyrs who braved a bold hill against enemy fire

Tell me again of freedoms gifted by some us supporting god
and maintained at the butt of a rifle or a quickly pulled pin

Some day peace will come of all of this. Us, deceased
strewn on the stones, blood soaking in the unkempt weeds
