July 14

Adages about larve bursting through
sputum, about baby birds booted
from their nests, about drying
and falling and struggle. Love
does not come easily.

Stories about teenagers one town
over, about unlikely travelers on
vacation, collegues in different
departments met in halls. Love
does not come quickly.

Midsentence, midlife, broken, lost,
mid-wifed in anger, fighting lonely,
stolen, cheated, begging for
breathing. The best love
does not come when called.

A day is not done, until it's filled with words.
