July 21

You’ll live long
like a rainbow, bent
to the end, crystalline
sunshine, optical illusion.

You’ll live long
like an anthem, bellowed
blindly, passed effortlessly
across generations.

You’ll live long
like a rainstorm soaked
in the concrete, nutrients
for all life, mother of weeds.

You’ll live
because living is born
and is being, warm
and wet and troublesome.

You’ll live.
